Job Title: EKG Associate, Nursing Float Team

SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a skilled EKG Associate to join our Nursing Float Team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for conducting cardiac monitoring on the adult population, performing phlebotomy, and practicing effective infection control measures.

Job Summary:

The EKG Associate will work under the supervision of a registered professional nurse to assist in all aspects of patient care and perform designated functions. This role requires a high level of attention to detail, strong communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:
  • Conduct cardiac monitoring on the adult population
  • Perform phlebotomy
  • Practice effective infection control measures
  • Perform direct nursing care activities as delegated
  • Perform indirect nursing care activities as determined by routine assignment and unit activity
  • Demonstrate knowledge of normal growth and development in the delivery of care to patients
  • Respond to the changing needs of patient care areas
  • Use problem-solving in meeting patient care and unit needs
  • Maintain a safe and efficient work environment
  • Obtain, record, and exchange information on behalf of the patient
  • Use ethical principles to guide decisions and actions consistent with UHB's operating goals and objectives
  • Respect and promote patients' rights
  • Foster/maintain positive public relations with patients, families, visitors, and staff
  • Communicate effectively with customers, visitors, patients, and staff
  • Represent the hospital positively by demonstrating respect and courtesy to all patients, colleagues, staff, and visitors
  • Participate in Quality Improvement and contribute to process improvement activities
  • Take an active role in managing resources
  • Plan appropriately to meet departmental objectives and take initiatives where necessary
  • Participate in activities to promote and foster team spirit and boost unit morale
  • Utilize effective skills in communicating with members of the health care team
  • Take an active role in personal/professional development
Requirements:
  • EKG and/or ECG certification
  • Phlebotomy certification
  • 1-year of full-time experience providing essential treatment and patient care under professional supervision
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • A satisfactory equivalent combination of experience, training, and education
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 1-year of experience as an EKG technician
