Job Description:

As a Patient Care Technician with Intermountain Health, you will play a vital role in providing patient-centered care to individuals in their homes. This is a unique opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of our patients and their families.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform varied patient care-related activities, duties, and tasks under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse (RN).
  • Provide administrative support to the work area/unit.
  • Work collaboratively with an interdisciplinary team to ensure seamless patient care.
  • Assist with patient transfers, admissions, and discharges as directed and in compliance with safe patient handling principles.
  • Perform equipment and tube care/management, including JPs, hemovacs, and nasogastric tubes.
  • Order and maintain office and patient care floor stock/supplies.
  • Perform the duties of unit secretary, including maintaining patient charts, responding to phone calls, and maintaining the daily assignment board.
Requirements:
  • Successful completion of an accredited nursing assistant training program.
  • Certification as a Nursing Assistant (CNA) in the state of practice.
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (BLS-HCP) certification upon hire or obtained within 60 days of hire with prior approval.
  • Current driver's license, insurance, reliable transportation, and an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to access the Internet or a phone line to transfer patient files twice a day.
  • Ability to transfer and position patients independently and safely.
  • Effective interpersonal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 1+ years of previous experience in a healthcare setting.
  • Ability to perform technical skills and experience gathering patient data and performing patient care tasks such as weight, height, vitals, intake/output measures, EKGs, and specimen collection.
  • Ability to provide personal hygiene, dressing, nutrition, activity, elimination, and other treatments.
  • Ability to work well with others and accept supervision.
Physical Requirements:

This position requires ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies. Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately. Manual dexterity of hands and fingers is required to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc. Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc). May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.
