Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Certified Nursing Assistant to join our team at West Virginia University Hospitals. As a Nursing Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and supporting our nursing staff in the Skilled Nursing Unit.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide routine daily nursing care and services to assigned patients, including vital sign measurements, personal care, and assistance with activities of daily living.
  • Assist patients with bowel and bladder functions, including bowel and bladder retraining programs.
  • Turn and position bedfast patients every 2 hours and as needed.
  • Assist patients with nail care, including cleaning and clipping.
  • Answer call bells promptly and assist patients with their needs.
  • Provide postmortem care and assist with the care of dying patients.
  • Assist patients with specialized feeding techniques and ambulation, gait training, and CPM administration as instructed by the physical therapist.
  • Apply orthopedic devices as instructed by the physical therapist.
  • Use safety equipment and supplies when lifting or moving patients who require more than one person assistance.
Requirements
  • Must have previously completed a nurse's aid training and competency program and must have previously passed a required competency test approved by the WV State Health Department.
  • High school education or GED required.
  • One year nursing assistant experience in long term care preferred.

Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to comprehend and perform oral and written instructions and procedures.
  • Effective reading and comprehension skills.
  • Strong communications skills, written and verbal.
  • Math skills for calculation of medications.
