Health Information Management Director

The Manager of Health Information Management is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Health Information Management department at North Central Health Care. This includes ensuring the completeness and accuracy of medical records, release of information, scanning, coding, and all processes related to maintaining and auditing the medical record.
This position requires strong leadership and management skills, as well as the ability to communicate effectively with team members and other stakeholders. The ideal candidate will have a bachelor's degree in Health Information Management or a related field, and at least 1 year of experience in a healthcare setting.
The Manager of Health Information Management will be responsible for implementing policies and procedures to ensure the quality of medical records, as well as maintaining knowledge of applicable federal, state, and accrediting agency laws and standards. This position will also be responsible for developing and managing the department budget, and ensuring that the department operates within budgetary limitations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provides leadership to the Health Information Management department and ensures that quality standards of medical record content are upheld.
- Organizes the health information function to achieve stated objectives, periodically reviews their effectiveness, and makes changes or recommendations as appropriate.
- Implements appropriate health record processing systems to provide accurate and timely processing of records and generation of reports.
- Assures accreditation and regulatory requirements are met and compliant.
- Performs all HR-related items, hiring, position justifications, promotion recommendations, annual performance evaluations, disciplinary guidance, and time/attendance duties.
- Determines staffing needs and assures personnel functions are carried out.
- Provide ongoing education and training for staff to maintain and improve skills.
- Implement and support quality improvement processes within the department and throughout the organization.
- Maintains knowledge of HIPAA and works to ensure compliance and enforcement of the policies and procedures to ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the protected health information.
- Lead the management and auditing of the medical records.
- Monitors written documentation, receives, and shares information with other interdisciplinary teams.
- Provides training to employees on medical record content, completion, confidentiality, documentation standards, and error correction procedures, as necessary.
- Ensure the quality of medical records by implementing policies and procedures to verify completeness, accuracy, and proper entry.
- Chapter Owner of 'Record of Care' for Joint Commission and conduct required quality reporting.
- Maintains current knowledge of applicable federal, state, and accrediting agency laws and standards. Anticipates and plans for regulatory changes on a federal and state level.
- Develops department budget assessing needs, trends, and projections. Ensures department operates within budgetary limitations and provides insight on all variances in the operating budget.
- Researches and prepares policies and procedures related to HIM.
- Serves as 'Custodian of Medical Records' to ensure security of charts and PHI.
- Responds to court-ordered Subpoenas.
