About the Position

This role is designed to contribute to the overall success of the team at Carolina Farm Trust, a company that strives to employ the local community, create healthy & organic foods/pastries, while outsourcing from local farmers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Executive Pastry Chef and team in the preparation and production of pastries, desserts, and baked goods.
  • Follow established recipes, properly scale, portion control, and quality standards to ensure consistency and excellence in production presentation.
  • Collaborate with the pastry team in new recipes and menu items.
  • Learn various techniques including: Dough Preparation, Baking, Decorating, and Plating Presentations.
  • Participate in production, including: mixing, shaping, proofing, and finishing desserts.
  • Maintain a clean and tidy work area, including proper FIFO standards.
  • Check the quality of the ingredients.
  • Arrange food and ensure an appealing presentation.
  • Assist in Banquet & Catering Operations/Events.
  • Ensure efficient/timely execution and presentation.
  • Manage food storage, stock, and ingredients.
  • Time management, communication, and organizational skills to review daily production needs and plan daily as a team.
  • Ability to perform effectively under conditions of fluctuating workload, multitask, and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.

Qualifications:

  • Possession of a passion for pastry and willingness to learn new techniques.
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of pastry techniques.
  • Attention to detail during production and finishing of pastries/desserts.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with the team.
  • Willingness to take direction and learn from the Executive Pastry Chef and team.
  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices, including proper handling, storage, and hygiene in a pastry kitchen.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays concerning the needs of the business.
  • Physical stamina and ability to lift, stand, and move heavy objects in a kitchen environment.
