DESCRIPTION

The City of Palmdale is recognized for its proficient workforce, hosting a significant number of aerospace companies situated at Air Force Plant 42 and the nearby Edwards Air Force Base. The community offers family-friendly and culturally enriching attractions, making Palmdale an ideal place to reside.

Palmdale spans approximately 104 square miles and has a population nearing 153,000. The city is supported by various school districts and boasts a developing retail and commercial sector.

BUSINESS HOURS: Standard operating hours are from 7:30 am to 6:00 pm, Monday to Thursday. Closed on Fridays.

UNION: The Teamsters Local 911 represents specific roles within the City's Maintenance Division of Public Works.

EMPLOYMENT INFORMATION

An eligibility list of the most qualified candidates will be created based on the selection process results, remaining valid for a period determined by Human Resources.

BENEFITS: These benefits apply to full-time and benefited part-time positions, excluding unbenefited part-time employees unless specified.

A minimum probation period of six months applies to initial employment with the City.

VACATION, HOLIDAYS, AND LEAVE: The City provides 14 paid holidays annually and 80 hours of vacation (for the first four years), with a maximum accrual of 240 hours. Administrative employees earn 80 hours of administrative leave per year, also with a maximum of 240 hours.

SICK LEAVE: Employees accrue 96 hours annually, with a maximum of 800 hours (400 hours for benefited part-time employees). Unbenefited part-time employees receive 28 hours of paid sick leave each fiscal year.

RETIREMENT: The City participates in the California Public Employees' Retirement System (Cal-PERS). Full-time and benefited part-time employees are enrolled in either the New Member or Classic plan, as defined by CalPERS.

WELLNESS PROGRAM: This program includes discounts on gym memberships, healthy eating initiatives, exercise classes, and additional wellness activities.

DIRECT DEPOSIT: Mandatory for all new employees.

CREDIT UNION: Options include F&A Federal Credit Union and Logix Federal Credit Union.

INSURANCE: The City provides group health, dental/vision, long-term and short-term disability insurance, and a $50,000 life insurance policy for full-time employees, with contributions towards health insurance.

DEFERRED COMPENSATION: Participation in the ICMA-RC Deferred Compensation Plan is available for benefited part-time and full-time employees, allowing tax-deferred contributions.

OVERTIME COMPENSATION: Overtime is compensated at time-and-a-half for eligible employees working beyond the standard forty (40) hour work week.

PART-TIME EMPLOYEES: Unbenefited part-time employees are eligible for merit salary advancement but not for other listed benefits. Benefited part-time employees receive prorated benefits.

MILEAGE PAY: Employees may be reimbursed for work-related mileage at 54 cents per mile when using their personal vehicle for City business.

SOCIAL SECURITY: The City does not participate in Social Security and does not deduct Social Security payments from salaries. A 1.45% deduction for Medicare is applied, with a matching contribution from the City.
