Pediatric Outpatient Clinical Therapist

This position supports Outpatient Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Behavioral Health services at Advocate Health. The ideal candidate will provide therapy services, virtually and/or in person, to children and adolescents and their families in a free-standing behavioral health clinic.
Main Responsibilities:
Direct Service:
The successful candidate will provide pediatric individual and family therapy services utilizing a solution-focused, brief therapy framework. This includes interviewing and evaluating patients, establishing diagnoses, and monitoring patients' behavior. The treatment plan will be developed collaboratively with the patient, defining goals, specific outcomes, and timeframes for treatment. The therapist will intervene psychotherapeutically to change attitudes, beliefs, and behavior of patients to improve individual and family level of functioning.
Key responsibilities include providing case management, outreach, and aftercare services to patients. The candidate will also counsel crisis patients to stabilize patients' condition, preventing them from harming themselves or others, and use short-term crisis intervention techniques and/or referral to other support services. Additionally, the therapist will meet performance standards for direct staff hours (DSH) as outlined for the position, develop and lead at least one treatment and/or skills-building group, and demonstrate ability to utilize and teach appropriate cognitive/behavior management and skill-building techniques.
Clinical Supervision:
Some therapist roles may provide supervision of the diagnostic evaluation, treatment planning, treatment process, and other professional duties. The successful candidate will direct supervisees on approaches to patient needs or suggest alternative approaches for resolution of problems. Key responsibilities include assessing performance by monitoring the quality and quantity of job behaviors and evaluating performance annually. The candidate will also ensure timely and accurate completion of forms, case recording, and reports provided by the staff; review and provide reports as required. Furthermore, the therapist will foster an environment where trainees will advance to further levels of competency, assess compliance with clinical and administrative policies and procedures, provide orientation and training to trainees, and actively incorporate during supervision how the billing process impacts the therapeutic process.
Recordkeeping:
The successful candidate will complete various administrative and insurance forms to assure accurate data collection for billing, management information system, and other purposes in accord with agency policies and procedures. Key responsibilities include maintaining concise, comprehensive case records by following established agency policies and procedures.
Agency and Training Activities:
The successful candidate will actively participate in agency activities and in the community in ways that make a positive contribution to agency operations. Key responsibilities include demonstrating constructive involvement with professionals in the agency and in the community, developing and maintaining professional relationships with court, police, human services, entitlement, and governmental agencies, health services vendors, and private organizations to enhance service delivery and agency image. The candidate will also interpret program services to the social service community, and occasionally represent the agency in public, civic, and private groups. Additionally, the therapist will participate in quality assurance, accreditation, and Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) activities and other special projects, demonstrate active involvement in supervision as evidenced by constructive participation, initiative, and apparent effort, identify professional goals, and enhance job-related skills through staff development activities.
