Position Overview:

  • Accountable for providing comprehensive physical therapy services across various athletic disciplines.
  • Support the Associate AD/Sports Medicine in fulfilling athletic training requirements for football and other sports as necessary.
  • Execute additional administrative responsibilities as delegated by the Associate AD/Sports Medicine.
  • Must possess dual credentials as a licensed physical therapist and certified athletic trainer or hold an ABPTS certification in sports physical therapy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise the provision of rehabilitation services for all athletic programs.
  • Facilitate collaboration between team physicians and their respective physical therapy departments in conjunction with the Associate AD/Sports Medicine.
  • Lead initiatives in the prevention and management of injuries and illnesses affecting student-athletes alongside the Associate AD/Sports Medicine.
    • Maintain digital health and injury records for supervised student-athletes.
    • Act as a liaison between student-athletes and the team physician, ensuring adherence to medical directives.
  • Engage with staff athletic trainers, team physicians, and other healthcare professionals regarding the rehabilitation needs of all sports.
  • Collaborate with the Assistant Director/Sports Medicine (Football) to provide rehabilitation services within the football program.
  • Assist with athletic training requirements for football, including direct coverage for the team and specific sports.
  • Support the daily operations of athletic training facilities, ensuring appropriate use of equipment and resources by student-athletes.
  • Complete necessary continuing education to uphold state and national certifications.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team that includes strength and conditioning, sports science, sports nutrition, and sport psychology/counseling professionals.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Doctoral degree from an accredited physical therapy program with a minimum of four (4) years of experience in a professional or collegiate Division I athletic setting as a licensed physical therapist or athletic trainer.
  • Must hold dual credentials as a licensed physical therapist and certified athletic trainer or possess an ABPTS certification in sports physical therapy.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • BOC Certified Athletic Trainer eligible for licensure in the State of Mississippi.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Familiarity with fundamental concepts of physical therapy and athletic training.
  • Capacity to work extended and irregular hours.
  • Willingness to travel as required.
  • Aptitude for working in challenging weather conditions.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

  • Regularly involves physical activities such as lifting and bending.
  • Exposure to environmental factors including heat, cold, noise, and chemicals.
  • Tasks may include walking, standing, lifting, sitting, reaching, talking, hearing, and handling various objects.
  • Requires the ability to handle heavy items weighing up to 100 lbs. frequently and up to 150 lbs. occasionally.
  • Vision requirement: ability to see information in print or electronically.
