Job Summary

The Hazelwood School District is seeking a highly skilled and experienced individual to fill the role of Opportunity Center Dean of Students. This position is responsible for providing support and guidance to students, parents, and staff to ensure the success of students in the Opportunity Center.

Key Responsibilities
  • Student Management: Develop and implement individual success plans for each student, focusing on support mechanisms to include school counselors, home school communicators, social workers, and teachers.
  • Transition Planning: Create and implement transition plans with timelines for students to return to their traditional school, working with school administration to ensure success.
  • Case Management: Serve as a case manager to follow up with traditional schools to determine the success of transition plans and ensure their implementation.
  • Discipline Investigations: Investigate assigned discipline referrals according to due process to students.
  • Consequence Determination: Confer with principal/assistant principal on appropriate consequences for behavior, including detention, in-school suspension, and out-of-school suspension.
  • Communication: Communicate behavior infractions, investigation results, and assigned consequences to parents/guardians.
  • Re-Entry Planning: Draft re-entry plans and facilitate re-entry meetings with students, parents, and teachers to repair harm to affected parties.
  • Counseling: Counsel students and parents about the school and district.
  • Alternative Education Placement: Coordinate alternative education placement.
Requirements
  • Experience: Three years' successful teaching or prior job-related experience with increasing levels of responsibilities in a school setting.
  • Skills: Strong organizational skills, ability to manage students and programs, communicate effectively, and problem-solve.
  • Knowledge: Discipline procedures, education code, and district policies.
  • Abilities: Ability to sit for prolonged periods, provide direction to others, make independent judgments, keep and maintain accurate records, meet deadlines, and communicate with individuals of varied cultural and educational backgrounds.
Qualifications
  • Licenses/Certifications: Teacher certification 6-8, 9-12, or Counseling K-12 required; working towards or current Administrative Certification 9-12 or School Leader K-12 preferred.
  • Salary: Employee will be paid from the Teacher's Salary Schedule.
