Description
The full performance level class operates under general supervision and necessitates substantial knowledge of monitoring park areas, recreational facilities, and other properties owned by Greene County. This role requires a solid understanding of law enforcement practices and agency regulations to function effectively as a law enforcement officer within the designated park area and Parks & Recreation.
HOURS OF WORK: Intermittent - Not to exceed 1,000 hours per year. Work hours may vary; a rotating schedule may include weekdays, evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or as needed based on departmental activities and services.
CLASSIFICATION STATUS: This position is unclassified under ORC A)(29). An unclassified employee is not included in the classified service, is exempt from all required examinations, and serves at the discretion of the appointing authority.
Duties/Responsibilities
(These duties are illustrative only. Incumbents may perform some or all of these duties or other job-related duties as assigned.)
Conduct patrols in vehicles, on foot, and on bicycles to safeguard visitors, facilities, and property, which includes: enforcing park regulations and Ohio laws, issuing warnings and citations, serving arrest warrants, investigating incidents and criminal offenses, enforcing traffic regulations, inspecting buildings and facilities, and verifying required licenses and permits. Engage with park visitors, providing information about the flora, fauna, and history of park areas; act as a liaison between the department and other agencies; perform undercover operations through surveillance and plainclothes investigations; attend mandatory training and qualifications as well as additional training to enhance skills as a ranger; attend pre-trials and trials in Juvenile, Municipal, and Common Pleas Courts when required; perform other duties of similar nature or level.
Maintain daily logs, citations, and detailed reports; document evidence and determine the details to include in records; manage inventory and procure equipment and supplies by conducting price comparisons from vendors and adhering to budget requirements, conduct inventory checks, and prepare inventory forms and purchase orders.
Assist in delivering educational materials to groups, including bike safety, park ranger presentations, discussions about parks, hunter education courses, natural resource programs, and support other departmental programs and events.
Contribute to the upkeep of park facilities by performing routine maintenance on park grounds and facilities; assist with preparations and clean-up of departmental programs as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
Completion of core coursework in an Associate's Degree in Criminal Justice or a related field; 12 months of law enforcement experience; must be at least 21 years of age per Ohio Revised Code; valid Ohio Driver's License.
-Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above may be substituted for education and/or experience required. Education and experience may not be substituted for mandated licensure/certification.
POSITION SPECIFIC MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
State of Ohio Peace Officer Certification;
State of Ohio Firearms Certification;
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification;*
First Aid Certification.
*CPR certification must be obtained within 6 months of employment and maintained.
There is a wide variety of benefits available to full-time permanent and some part-time permanent Greene County employees. These benefits include health, dental, vision, life insurance, optional life insurance plans, wellness programs, employee assistance programs, and deferred compensation plans.
The County pays 80% of the health care premium and 39% of the dental premium. All full-time employees are eligible for $50,000 group life insurance paid 100% by the County.
NOTE: Employees who are non-permanent, seasonal, intermittent, part-time scheduled for less than 60 hours per pay period, and external interim, are not benefit eligible.
