Key Responsibilities
  • Documentation and Summarization: Accurately document examination findings, including proper coding and billing, to ensure seamless communication between healthcare providers.
  • Assessment and Planning: Complete assessments and plans in a timely manner, ensuring that patients receive the best possible care.
  • Electronic Prescriptions and Charting: Ensure proper transmission of electronic prescriptions and accurate documentation of patient charts.
  • Support during Exams: Assist during exams, including holding patients' heads in the slit lamp, instilling eye drops, and providing instruments as needed.
  • Patient Education and Communication: Provide patients with clear and concise instructions, and ensure they understand all aspects of their care.
  • Patient Flow and Communication: Maintain efficient patient flow, monitor Room Manager, and alert physicians to patient-related messages.
  • Administrative Tasks: Assist with administrative tasks, including completing forms, auditing provider schedules, and stocking provider rooms.
  • Team Collaboration: Collaborate effectively with clinic supervisors, front desk personnel, fellow scribes, technicians, and other staff members.
  • Additional Responsibilities: Perform other duties as assigned, including assisting with telephone support and escorting patients to and from waiting areas.
Requirements
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED, with some college preferred.
  • Experience: 1-2 years of ophthalmic experience, with unexpired certification as an ophthalmic scribe or ophthalmic technician.
  • Skills: General knowledge of medical terminology, ophthalmic knowledge preferred, strong computer competency, and ability to maintain strict confidentiality of patient information.
  • Personal Qualities: Ability to work well in a team situation, be productive and manage time effectively, and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bilingual: Bilingual preferred, but not required.
  • Additional Skills: Ability to type or write legibly in a dimly lit setting, and strong organizational skills with high attention to detail.
