The San Diego LGBT Community Center is a beacon for the regional LGBTQ community, providing targeted programs and services to support its members.

About the Position

We are seeking a skilled Staff Counselor to provide individual, couples, family, and group counseling primarily to the HIV/AIDS and LGBTQ communities. The ideal candidate will possess strong critical thinking, verbal communication, active listening, and empathy skills, as well as experience working with youth, including LGBTQ youth, youth living with HIV, and/or un-housed youth.

Responsibilities
  • Provide individual/couples/co-joint/group/family counseling, including crisis counseling, assessment, treatment planning, and information & referral.
  • Maintain Electronic Health Record documentation and reporting.
  • Maintain minimal productivity standards.
  • Participate in BHS Department meetings, check-ins, consultation, training, and clinical supervision, as applicable, as well as agency meetings and training.
Requirements
  • Successful completion of terminal graduate training program in a psychotherapy-related field: Ph.D./Psy.D., M.A. or M.S. in psychology, MSW, etc., at an accredited university or college.
  • Licensed-eligible in Marriage and Family Therapy, Social Work, or APCC and currently registered with the CA Board of Behavioral Sciences.
  • Prior experience working in the LGBTQ and HIV communities.
  • A minimum of two years of experience working with youth, including LGBTQ youth, youth living with HIV, and/or un-housed youth.
