Minneapolis, Minnesota, United States Wagner Spray Tech Full time
Job Overview

Position Objective:

The primary focus of this role is to support the daily operations of Quality Technicians, aiming to proactively evaluate internal processes through comprehensive auditing and reporting rather than merely confirming dimensional and physical compliance. Key responsibilities include auditing safety protocols, conducting layered process audits, and evaluating standard work/control plans as well as scrap procedures. Additionally, the role involves analyzing process outputs to assess stability and capability (Cpk) and overseeing the generation and implementation of corrective actions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide mentorship and training on auditing processes and validation techniques, along with Wagner's established practices and procedures.
  • Conduct audits and validate processes across various manufacturing operations. Prepare first article inspection reports for diverse components, particularly those with stringent tolerances, utilizing advanced measurement and testing equipment. These audits assist management and quality engineers in evaluating production readiness and process capability.
  • Develop software applications for CMM inspections of components.
  • Manage the calibration program for the organization, including equipment within our certified testing facility, adhering to ISO/IEC 17025 standards.
  • Perform calibrations on a range of precision inspection and testing instruments.
  • Assist in formulating calibration procedures for in-house equipment. Maintain comprehensive records of calibrations to meet ISO 9001 quality system standards, utilizing a computerized system that tracks equipment serialization, calibration dates, methods, resources, and results.
  • Recommend necessary inspection and testing equipment. Aid in preparing justifications for capital expenditures and purchase orders for new equipment.
  • Investigate quality issues related to components and assemblies identified during production.
  • Compile reports summarizing inspection and calibration activities.

Relationships:

Work direction is primarily received from Quality Engineers and the Senior Quality Engineer. Regular communication regarding inspection and audit activities occurs with personnel in Quality, Engineering, Manufacturing, Purchasing, and the Testing Laboratory. There may be occasional discussions with suppliers concerning specific quality matters and inspection methodologies. Close collaboration with calibration service providers and equipment suppliers is also essential.

Position Dimensions:

This role involves handling confidential information, including costs and specifications. Inspection tasks typically encompass surface plate work, optical comparisons, material hardness testing, surface finish evaluations, and the use of various precision measurement tools. Calibration duties involve a wide array of precision measurement and testing instruments, alongside auditing manufacturing processes and assessing process capability through statistical methods.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
  • Certifications in Precision Measurement and Gauging, Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance, and ISO 17925 for calibration are preferred.
  • ASQ Certified Mechanical Inspector certification is also advantageous.

Experience:

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in an inspection role utilizing precision measurement and testing equipment is necessary.
  • A comprehensive understanding of various precision measurement tools, including CMM and vision systems, is essential.
  • Familiarity with sampling plans such as ANSI/ASQ Z1.9 is required.

Skills:

  • Proficiency in SAP and PC software, including Word, Excel, and Access, at an intermediate level is required. A basic understanding of statistical data analysis is also necessary.
  • Working knowledge of analytical/scientific software, including CMM and PCDMIS, is expected.
  • Above-average mathematical skills, including some knowledge of trigonometry, are essential.
  • Familiarity with metallurgical analysis equipment is beneficial.
  • Strong critical thinking, judgment, and decision-making skills are required.
  • Attention to detail is crucial.
  • Tools commonly used in this role include force gauges, torque testers, absorbance spectrophotometers, and ultrasonic testing devices.
