Opportunity:

BHSI is currently seeking a dedicated Program Underwriter to join our Commercial Property Programs team. This role is based in our Boston office and is ideal for a motivated individual who is intelligent, hardworking, and committed to achieving excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the management of designated programs.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in utilizing both admitted and non-admitted products underwritten by the organization.
  • Apply underwriting expertise in commercial lines, particularly focusing on Property and Allied Lines.
  • Collaborate with various internal departments, including actuarial, claims, legal, operations, and IT, involved in the oversight of program business.
  • Develop and implement underwriting guidelines for assigned programs.
  • Build and maintain relationships with Program Administrators.
  • Establish and monitor performance metrics for assigned programs.
  • Conduct underwriting audits on the Program Administrator's book of business and recommend guidelines to enhance underwriting results.
  • Assist in developing infrastructure by:
    • Working with Operations and Legal Departments to establish operational and compliance standards.
    • Collaborating with Actuarial to set pricing and assess profitability.
    • Partnering with Legal on contracts, policy forms, and endorsements.
    • Coordinating with Claims on Third-Party Administrator agreements and relationships.
  • Engage directly with Program Administrators and TPAs regarding assigned programs.
  • Facilitate communication between carrier departments and program administrators.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Extensive background in Commercial Property and Allied Lines underwriting.
  • While program management experience is advantageous, it is not a prerequisite.
  • Willingness to learn about key aspects of insurance company operations that support program business, collaborating with various departments such as Actuarial, Legal, Claims, IT, and Operations.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively across all management levels and underwriting disciplines.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in Commercial Property underwriting.
  • Exceptional negotiation skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Capability to thrive in a team-oriented environment.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience is required.
  • CPCU designation is preferred.
