HDR Engineering is seeking a Substation Engineer to join our team of Power Delivery professionals. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for executing technical design on substation engineering projects. This is an excellent opportunity for a self-directed individual who is eager to learn and take on new challenges.

The primary duties of a Substation Engineer include preparing engineering drawings, calculations, analyses, reports, and designs for electrical substations and substation systems. You will work under the direction and supervision of more senior engineers and designers to develop drawings in accordance with national design standards, safety codes, and project specifications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work under the direction of the Project Manager(s) and Project Engineer(s).
  • Prepare calculations, design sketches, and redline drawings.
  • Collaborate with Designers and CAD Technicians to develop drawings.
  • Develop one-line diagrams, protection and control schematic development, wiring diagrams, SCADA, communications, substation physical layouts, material lists, conduit and cable sizing/routing, AC and DC systems calculations and sizing, and substation grounding.
  • Occasional short-term travel may be necessary.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • EIT preferred. Candidates hired without their EIT will be called a Substation Coordinator.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
  • Computer skills in Microsoft Office.
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture.
