Cybersecurity Specialist

This position is open to highly skilled individuals who can lead the IT team and enhance the cybersecurity posture of the Wetland and Aquatic Research Center (WARC). The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising the IT federal workforce, managing resources, and directing the development of technology project proposals.

• Supervise and manage the IT team, ensuring efficient use of resources and adherence to sound business practices.
• Develop and implement cybersecurity plans to enhance the security posture of the science center, ensuring compliance with DOI OCIO and USGS security policies.
• Leverage advanced computer science principles and cloud expertise to enhance system design, improve software quality, and optimize resources for scalable scientific research and data processing.
• Coordinate with the Science Applications and Technology Branch Chief, science center Director, and USGS ACIO Southeast region liaison to ensure alignment with DOI OCIO and USGS cybersecurity policies.
• Develop and periodically update a strategic IT plan for the science center, addressing future technology needs, infrastructure, staffing, and finances.

• U.S. citizenship is required.
• Background investigation will be required for this position.
• Valid state driver's license and safe driving record are required.
• Applicants must meet the basic education requirement for Computer Scientist, which includes a bachelor's or higher degree in computer science or a related field.
• One year of appropriate professional experience that is in or directly related to the duties of the position is required.
