Job Summary:

As a Laboratory Phlebotomist at Gritman Medical Center, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our laboratory services. Your primary responsibility will be to collect blood samples from patients, process and distribute them for internal and external use, and perform various clerical tasks.

Key Responsibilities:

Perform blood collection via venipuncture or capillary puncture, ensuring patient comfort and safety.
Process and distribute samples for internal and external use, adhering to strict quality control measures.
Print and/or process patient reports, providing accurate and timely information to healthcare professionals.
Offer reception support, maintaining a positive and professional image of the laboratory.
Perform clerical tasks, including data entry, filing, and report processing, ensuring efficient laboratory operations.
Carry out housekeeping duties to maintain a clean and organized laboratory environment.
Drive or walk to clients to deliver reports, pick up specimens, or collect blood samples, adhering to safety protocols.

Requirements:

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.
Entry-level experience is preferred, but not necessary.
Clinical phlebotomy experience is a plus.

Physical Demands:

Lifting: Maximum of 40 lbs. from floor to knee, 1x per day.
Moderate force required for centrifuge use.
Carrying: Phlebotomy tray (up to 5 lbs.) for up to 50% of the 10-hour shift.
Fine motor skills required for blood drawing, labeling, and computer use.

Environmental Conditions:

Constant exposure to wet conditions from hand washing and solutions.
Frequent exposure to noise from centrifuges, telephones, computer printers, and laboratory equipment.
Constant exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals in laboratory reagents.
Constant exposure to biohazardous materials from patient specimens, including blood, urine, stool, CSF, and other body fluids.
Occasional exposure to fumes from staining reagents and constant exposure to odors from laboratory reagents and body fluids.

Required Protective Equipment:

Laboratory coat required, either personal or hospital supplied.
Gloves are required for all specimen collection and processing.
Safety goggles or safety shield required for specimen processing.
Closed-toe shoes required.
