Process Engineer for Large-Scale Food Production

Plantible Foods, a vertically integrated biology company backed by leading investors, is seeking an experienced Process Engineer to drive the rapid scaling of our commercial production facility in Texas. As part of our engineering team, you will design, develop, and optimize full-scale manufacturing systems for maximum yields and reduced costs.

The successful candidate will have a B.S. in Process or Chemical Engineering or similar and 3-5 years of experience designing and building food processing systems, operations, or facilities. They should have a hands-on mentality for working with pilot and scale-up equipment and processes.

Rapid market demand for Rubi Protein necessitates additional support in the engineering team. Over the next 12 months, we will implement process improvements in cultivation and processing infrastructure. Subsequently, we will focus on detailed engineering of scalable cultivation and processing modules based on Ranchito's design and operational performance.

Responsibilities
  • Engineering:
    • Develop, design, install, and optimize full-scale manufacturing systems for maximum yields, reduced costs, and improved equipment performance and reliability.
    • Scale up manufacturing technologies developed in our pilot plant.
  • Project Management:
    • Prepare project documentation, including volume and mass balances, budgets, technical specifications, and SOPs.
    • Coordinate with suppliers and contractors to source materials and prepare services.
    • Support and lead capital projects to expand and improve our commercial production facility.
  • Daily Activities:
    • Collaborate with engineering, operations, and pilot teams to optimize current processes and scale up new developments.
    • Spend time at the commercial facility working on process improvements and new engineering developments for successful tech transfers.
    • Develop and communicate process designs using process flow diagrams, P&IDs, process narratives, and volume and mass balances.
    • Create and execute capital projects to implement plant and process improvements utilizing data from other teams.
    • Monitor project progression, resolve issues, and coordinate team activities to maintain the approved schedule.
    • Update management and project engineers on project progress and requirements regularly.
    • Control project pace and budget, and manage project changes as needed.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Process or Chemical Engineering or similar.
  • 3-5 years of experience designing and building food processing systems, operations, or facilities.
  • Hands-on mentality for working with pilot and scale-up equipment and processes.
  • Experience running engineering projects from project charter to successful tech transfer into operations.
  • Acute curiosity about process performance and plant operations optimization.
  • Desire to collaborate with colleagues but also work independently.
  • Ability to adapt to changing timelines and priorities.
  • Continuous learner, excited to understand the complete production process from cultivation to packaging.

The estimated salary range for this position is $120,000 - $160,000 per year, depending on qualifications and experience.
