Our graduates persist in and graduate from college at five times the rate of their peers nationally, thanks to our strong academic, co-curricular, and social-emotional learning programs.
Role OverviewWe are seeking an English Teacher to join our team at Uncommon High School. As a member of our faculty, you will be responsible for teaching English Language Arts (ELA) to high school students, developing lesson plans, and assessing student progress.
Duties and Responsibilities- Instruction: Teach from a robust literature curriculum that prioritizes inclusive texts, emphasizes diversity, and prepares students for Advanced Placement (AP), SAT, and collegiate level coursework.
- Content Expertise: Conduct a deep exploration of daily content to guide students in analyzing books by renowned authors, including James Baldwin, Toni Morrison, F. Scott Fitzgerald, William Shakespeare, and Yaa Gyasi.
- Student Development: Develop students' independent and collaborative reading, writing, and discussion skills through facilitated student-led discourse.
- Assessment and Feedback: Analyze student comprehension and writing regularly, adapting lessons to maximize student learning and partnering with department members on content and instructional strategies.

- Required Experience:
- A demonstrated interest in impacting K-12 students in urban schools and communities (1-2 years experience preferred).
- Academic expertise in Humanities, English, Social Sciences, or other related fields of study.
- Prior to the start of employment, a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university is required, with certification eligibility requirements met through enrollment in a teacher preparation program or completion of a degree in education.
The estimated salary for this role is between $50,000 to $64,700, depending on relevant professional experience, education, certifications, and tenure with Uncommon Schools.
