Mental Health Specialist

The Delta Area Economic Opportunity Corporation (DAEOC), a dedicated Community Action Agency in Missouri, is on the lookout for a Mental Health Specialist. This role is pivotal in executing strategies aimed at identifying and supporting children facing mental health and social-emotional challenges, while also providing essential support to educators and families.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitates connections with diagnostic service providers for children referred for mental health services.
  • Collaborates with educational staff to enhance classroom management and teaching practices through targeted observations and follow-up strategies tailored to individual child and teacher needs.
  • Assists in creating supportive physical and cultural environments that foster positive mental health and emotional well-being.
  • Delivers training related to mental health in conjunction with community service collaborations.
  • Provides technical assistance to the Children's Services Health Team as required.
  • Coordinates with community professionals to optimize resource utilization in alignment with program goals.
  • Conducts regular observations and follow-ups with children and staff, adhering to a mutually agreed schedule with the Health Lead.
  • Communicates effectively with the Health Lead and Children's Services Director regarding any challenges encountered in the mental health program.
  • Treats children, families, staff, and community partners with utmost respect and professionalism.
  • Exhibits a positive demeanor and employs constructive language in all interactions.
  • Adheres to DAEOC/Head Start Program policies and procedures consistently.
  • Maintains confidentiality concerning children, families, and staff at all times.
  • Gains familiarity with Head Start/Early Head Start Performance Standards and ensures their implementation.
  • Reports any observed or discovered incidents of child abuse in accordance with mandated reporter requirements and program guidelines.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's Degree (BS/BA) in social work, psychology, counseling, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Prior experience working with children is essential.

Language Proficiency:

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret various professional documents and regulations.
  • Capable of writing reports, business correspondence, and procedural manuals.
  • Skilled in presenting information and addressing inquiries from diverse groups including managers, clients, and the public.
  • Must demonstrate warmth, understanding, and affection towards young children.
  • Ability to communicate positively with parents, staff, and community members.

Mathematical Skills:

  • Proficient in basic arithmetic operations including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  • Ability to calculate rates, ratios, and percentages.
