The Rehabilitation Therapy Assistant is a proficient technical professional who provides direct care to residents under the supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Administer physical therapy interventions to residents based on individualized treatment plans established by the Physical Therapist.
  • Support the Physical Therapist during assessments, evaluations, and advanced treatment techniques.
  • Monitor, document, and communicate to the therapist any changes in residents' conditions or responses related to assigned tasks.
  • Maintain accurate daily treatment records and progress notes as directed by the supervising therapist.
  • Assist with the screening process for new admissions.
  • Collaborate with the therapist in discussions with family members, physicians, and other healthcare professionals as necessary.
  • Contribute to the upkeep of the physical therapy department and its equipment.
  • Assist the Physical Therapist in conducting in-service training sessions and other meetings as required.
  • Pursue continuing education opportunities relevant to your role to ensure clinical competence.
  • Comply with Heritage Healthcare's regulatory and professional standards and guidelines.
  • Participate in rehabilitation team meetings to discuss resident progress, challenges, or needs.
  • Follow facility policies and procedures and engage in quality improvement and safety initiatives.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Understand various payer reimbursement processes and manage therapy resources effectively in line with resident goals and discharge plans.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of OBRA regulations, HIPAA, Local Coverage Determination, and third-party reimbursement protocols.
  • Embrace the company's commitment to Compassionate Care; project a professional demeanor to inspire confidence in the rehabilitation program.
  • Carry out responsibilities independently while recognizing when direct supervision is necessary; readily assist colleagues.
  • Meet the expected productivity standards established for your role within the facility.

Qualifications:

  • Graduate from an accredited Physical Therapy Assistant program.
  • Current licensure or eligibility for licensure as per state regulations.
  • Preferred experience in a setting catering to a similar demographic as served by this facility.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, along with effective interpersonal abilities.
  • Capability to comprehend and adhere to the directives of the Physical Therapist and the facility's policies and procedures.
Physical demands include the ability to safely perform the following activities, sometimes for extended periods:

Standing:
Maintaining an upright position for prolonged durations.

Pushing:

Exerting force against an object to move it, with a push or pull force of up to 35 lbs.


Lifting:

Raising objects from lower to higher positions, requiring the ability to lift up to 50 lbs independently, and potentially more with assistance.


Stooping:

Bending forward and down from the waist, hips, and knees for extended periods.


Reaching:
Extending arms and hands in various directions.

Balancing:
Maintaining equilibrium to prevent falls when walking, standing, or crouching on uneven surfaces.
