We are seeking a skilled Neurosurgical Care Specialist to join our team at RWJBarnabas Health.
About the JobThis is a full-time, day shift position in our 24-hour Neurosurgery department. As a Neurosurgical Care Specialist, you will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care through assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning. You will work independently, following established procedures and protocols, and collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
Responsibilities- Perform duties independently, utilizing standardized procedures and methods, referring questionable situations to physicians as needed.
- Provide primary health care through assessment, diagnosis, clinical judgment, and management to restore, maintain, and improve patient health status.
- Responsible for reporting identified safety issues, such as hazardous environments and medical errors.
- Participate in multidisciplinary rounds and attend meetings as necessary.
- Cover the Neurosurgical service phone for consults and trauma calls.
- Update patients and families regarding plans of care and goals of care discussions.
- Administer injections, immunizations, and oral medications; start IVs; and perform surgical first assisting as needed.
- Assist physicians with recording patient progress notes, issuing diagnostic orders, and transcribing orders.
- Participate in counseling and education functions, including billing for patient services based on CMS and NJ State Board regulations.
- Demonstrate satisfactory knowledge and judgment to provide appropriate care for patients.
- Develop plans of care for patients in coordination with the multidisciplinary team and complete reports to physicians and families.
- Current NJ APN/PA license required.
- NCCPA certification required.
- CDS and DEA certification required.
- RN license required.
- BLS and ACLS certification required.
- NP candidates must be FNP certified with acute care experience due to the pediatric population on the service.
- Ideal candidate would have 3-5 years of inpatient or acute patient care experience in neurosurgery, with a desire for shift work.
- Must be willing to become proficient at all inpatient bedside neurosurgical procedures.
- Surgical first assisting experience is also preferred.
- APNs must have RNFA certification to work in the operating room.
- New graduates may be considered if they meet the requirements.
