Role Purpose:

The primary objective of this position is to carry out a comprehensive range of cleaning tasks to ensure that all campus facilities meet established hygiene standards, thereby providing a clean and visually appealing environment that supports the educational mission of the University.


This role serves as a pooled position to gather potential candidates for custodial openings as they arise.



Key Responsibilities:

The specific tasks assigned to custodians may differ based on their designated shift and/or building assignments.



Core Duties for Classrooms Include:
  • Emptying and sanitizing waste receptacles;
  • Arranging and aligning desks;
  • Cleaning chalkboards, whiteboards, board trays, and erasers;
  • Sanitizing desks (both student and instructor) and student tables;
  • Vacuuming carpets and mopping hard surfaces;
  • Removing marks and graffiti from all surfaces;
  • Dusting baseboards, window sills, bookcases, file cabinets, ledges, locker tops, and vents;
  • Cleaning all glass partitions, mirrors, display cases, etc.


Restroom Duties Include:
  • Sanitizing urinals, basins, commodes, partitions, and fixtures;
  • Mopping floors;
  • Stocking and replenishing paper towels, toilet paper, and soap dispensers;
  • Cleaning shower areas, including walls, drains, benches, and locker tops;
  • Sanitizing water fountains, wood surfaces, tile floors, stairwells, and elevator surfaces;
  • Cleaning interior and exterior windows as directed by supervision.

Providing additional cleaning services as required for special events.


Responding to emergency calls via radio or pager and attending safety training sessions.


Reporting malfunctioning equipment, supply needs, and safety concerns to appropriate supervisory personnel.


Maintaining cleanliness and orderliness in work areas (custodial closets, etc.).


Wearing assigned uniform attire.


Adhering to all policies and procedures established by the University, Operations & Maintenance, and Building Services.


Performing any additional duties as assigned by supervisory personnel.



Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED;
  • Basic computer skills;
  • Ability to perform duties requiring medium to heavy physical exertion on a regular basis;
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and outside of normal working hours, to meet the needs of the University and Operations & Maintenance Department.

Previous custodial experience and a valid driver's license are preferred.
