Job Summary

This position is responsible for overseeing and participating in the work of a crew of personnel responsible for the maintenance and repair of county roads, rights-of-way, and drainage structures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leads and directs crews in the maintenance of and repair of county rights-of-way and drainage easements.
  • Operates light and heavy equipment to install, repair, and clean culvert pipes; cleans and maintains outfall ditches, drainage ditches, and drainage easements.
  • Operates light and heavy equipment in the maintenance of county rights-of-way and drainage systems, to include clearing brush and tree limbs, removing trees, and trimming.
  • Ensures that crews meet production expectations and schedules with quality results.
  • Enforces safety policies and procedures.
  • Oversees the maintenance of assigned truck, equipment, and tools.
  • Prepares locate requests before work projects.
  • Performs driveway inspections.
  • Trains crew members.
  • Sets and releases beaver traps; removes beaver dams.
  • Completes required paperwork.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Performs other work as required or when directed by administration.
  • In the event of an emergency, all Camden County employees are considered essential and may be required to perform alternate duties.
Knowledge and Skills Required
  • Knowledge of county personnel policies.
  • Knowledge of public works construction and maintenance principles.
  • Knowledge of work safety principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of equipment operation and maintenance principles.
  • Skill in the use of job-related equipment.

Supervisory and Management Responsibility

This position has direct supervision over an assigned crew of personnel.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to a high school diploma.
  • Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions to be able to answer questions and resolve problems, usually associated with one to three years' experience or service.
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid Class A commercial driver's license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
