At Ellis Bragg LLC, a leading manufacturer of custom springs, wire forms, metal stampings, and assemblies since 1946, we are seeking a skilled Machinist and Tool Designer to join our team.

As a Machinist and Tool Designer, you will play a crucial role in the fabrication or repair of cutting tools, jigs, fixtures, and gauges. Your responsibilities will include analyzing specifications, laying out metal stock, setting up and operating machine tools, and fitting and assembling parts.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Study and Plan Operations: You will study specifications (blueprints, sketches) and plan operations to ensure the successful completion of projects.
  2. Measure, Mark, and Layout Metal Stock: Measure, mark, and layout metal stock for machining to precise tolerances.
  3. Set Up and Operate Machine Tools: Set up and operate machine tools (lathe, milling machine, shaper, grinder) to fabricate or repair cutting tools, jigs, fixtures, and gauges.
  4. Secure Parts: Secure parts using devices like vises and angle plates.
  5. Assemble Parts: Assemble parts using hand tools.
  6. Verify Dimensions: Verify dimensions with measuring instruments (micrometers, height gauges).
  7. Modify Standard Tools: Modify standard tools as needed to meet project requirements.
  8. Develop Specifications: Develop specifications and sketch tools to be fabricated.
  9. Communicate with Coworkers: Communicate with coworkers and supervisors to coordinate activities and ensure smooth project execution.
  10. Inspect and Measure Parts: Inspect and measure parts for quality control purposes.
  11. Troubleshoot Issues: Troubleshoot tool, machine, or material issues that may arise during the project.
  12. Maintain a Safe Work Environment: Maintain an organized and safe work station, adhering to all safety rules and procedures.
Requirements:
  • Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is required. In-house training on assigned machinery and equipment is also necessary.
  • Experience: At least 5 years of experience with manual tool room equipment is required.
  • Skills: Proficient in reading, writing, and understanding instructions in English; ability to measure parts with tools and gauges; basic math skills (geometry and trigonometry); ability to read blueprints and understand tolerances; analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to work independently and follow instructions.
Working Conditions:

You will be working in a shop environment with exposure to metalworking machinery and equipment. Physical demands include standing/walking 100% of the time, bending/stooping/twisting 50% of the time, lifting/carrying up to 40 pounds occasionally, and using hands 100% of the time.
