Position Overview

The Junior Facilities Operations Manager will engage with a designated group of Bernhard clients to analyze energy consumption and strategies, aiming to implement optimal practices. This role includes supporting and overseeing the Operations and Maintenance (O&M) of the Central Energy Plant (CEP) for the campus, as well as mentoring the owner's staff on facility operations and energy efficiency as part of a broader campus initiative.

Key Responsibilities

Specific Duties Include:

  • Daily assessment of energy consumption for the facility, providing guidance, best practices, and adjustments to current operations.
  • Advising the owner on energy management strategies.
  • Overseeing the Central Energy Plant's operation and maintenance, including coordination with subcontractors, operators, and internal service teams.
  • Managing the Maintenance Reserve Accounts associated with the CEP.
  • Collaborating with operators to ensure efficient plant performance.
  • Conducting ongoing training for Plant Operators.
  • Creating and updating the Plant Operating Manual.
  • Assisting the Bernhard Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) team in coordinating engineering, procurement, and construction activities with O&M operations.
  • Facilitating on-site troubleshooting and diagnostic efforts in collaboration with remote support services.

Employment Type

This is a Full-Time, Exempt position reporting to a senior Asset Manager or Director.

Qualifications

Required Education, Experience, and Skills:

  • 2-3 years of experience in mechanical construction with a significant mechanical subcontractor or MEP design consultant, or 2-3 years of management experience in a central plant or facility.
  • Strong knowledge of building codes and related standards.
  • Excellent communication and organizational abilities.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented with the capability to manage multiple ongoing projects in a dynamic environment.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and competitors.
  • Ability to multitask and undertake responsibilities beyond the primary scope of work when necessary.

Preferred Education, Experience, and Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (ABET Accredited Program).
  • Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) certification preferred.

Travel Requirements

Minimal travel (0-5%) to job sites or office locations may be required.

Physical/Work Environment Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Ability to ascend and descend ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, and/or poles.
  • Climbing stairs and moving in various positions to complete tasks in diverse environments, including tight spaces.
  • Remaining stationary for extended periods, often kneeling, standing, or sitting.
  • Working in both noisy and quiet environments.
  • Medium physical work, including adjusting and/or moving objects weighing up to 50 pounds.

Compensation

Pay range: USD $57,000.00 - $84,000.00 per year.
