The Critical Care Nurse is responsible for the application of the nursing process and the provision of patient care across various critical care environments.
This role consistently adheres to nursing standards and is accountable for managing patient care while assisting colleagues in their care responsibilities.
Key responsibilities include monitoring patient conditions, conducting assessments, managing vital signs, overseeing ventilator operations, administering medications, performing intravenous insertions and infusions, handling central line care, and maintaining accurate records of patient status.
The Critical Care Nurse must be prepared to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation and other emergency interventions for patients under their care at all times.
Core Responsibilities:
- Utilizes the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care.
- Identifies signs and symptoms indicating physiological and psychosocial changes in patient conditions.
- Collects, documents, analyzes, and interprets data from healthcare team members.
- Communicates nursing interventions, anticipated outcomes, and timelines for completion to the healthcare team.
- Acts as a resource for healthcare team members in planning for patient discharge.
- Documents the patient's care plan using established nursing diagnoses, expected outcomes, and selected interventions.
- Ensures a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients.
- Initiates and evaluates education for patients and/or their families.
- Compares expected and actual outcomes of care, identifying deviations from the care plan.
- Adheres to facility policies, procedures, and protocols consistently.
- Performs additional duties as assigned or necessary.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Current Registered Nurse License for the state of practice.
- Preferred one year of experience in critical care.
- Minimum of one year of acute or critical care experience preferred.
- Current BLS certification; current ACLS/PALS certification as required by the facility.
- Complies with all relevant professional standards of practice.
- Participation and completion of Amergis' Competency program when applicable.
- TB Questionnaire, PPD, or chest x-ray if applicable.
- Current health certificate as per contract or state regulations.
- Must meet all federal, state, and local requirements.
- Successful completion of new hire training as applicable to the job site.
- Understanding of patient confidentiality and HIPAA regulations.
- Ability to effectively communicate with supervisors, co-workers, and clients; proficiency in the English language is required.
- Computer proficiency is required.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
