The Safety Systems division is seeking a Technical Program Manager to enhance our comprehensive safety framework and the integration of diverse safety research and mitigation strategies into our offerings. This position is vital for facilitating the secure rollout of our innovative models, synthesizing contributions from various stakeholders, including research, product development, engineering, legal, and policy teams, while ensuring that all potential risks are adequately monitored, mitigated, or addressed.
Role Responsibilities
In the capacity of a Safety Engineering Program Manager, you will oversee essential functions, from tracking safety engineering advancements and risk assessments to managing crucial data infrastructure initiatives. You will serve as a vital link to improve the deployment of OpenAI's safety systems. Furthermore, you will devise and implement a computational roadmap for your team, ensuring that our primary objectives are adequately resourced while capitalizing on new opportunities for significant safety infrastructure investments. Your main goal will be to establish a foundational layer that underpins the safety of all our models and products.
Key Duties Include:
- Overseeing critical risk domains and engaging with relevant stakeholders.
- Collaborating directly with safety engineers, engineering leaders, and product managers to develop unified safety infrastructure.
- Managing data and computational infrastructure, focusing on data residency and capacity planning.
- Designing and executing essential internal programs, including incident management and processes for the regular updating of our safety mitigations.
- Prioritizing and managing a portfolio of infrastructure requests from various internal teams.
Ideal Candidate Profile:
- Holds an undergraduate or graduate degree in computer science or computer engineering, or possesses a proven track record of engineering proficiency.
- Demonstrates a strong history of successfully delivering high-stakes, complex technical projects within stringent timelines.
- Is technically skilled and has effectively collaborated with top-tier engineering and fundamental research teams.
- Has experience in designing and implementing straightforward, scalable processes that address intricate challenges.
- Is highly resourceful and thrives in dynamic, fast-paced environments.
- Possesses in-depth knowledge of content integrity and moderation, including industry best practices and regulatory standards.
- Exhibits exceptional written and verbal communication abilities.
- Is passionate about AGI safety.
