Job Title: Dental Services Director

Join the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe as a Dental Services Director and play a vital role in administering, maintaining, and expanding a program of dental care in our Lower Elwha Dental Clinic setting.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Clinical Leadership:
    • Provide direct patient care, including examinations, diagnoses, education, and treatment planning.
    • Refer patients to specialists for consultation or treatment according to established clinical protocols and guidelines.
    • Document all patient-dentist interactions in the patient's dental record in a timely manner, ensuring the record accurately reflects the nature of the visit, the patient's condition, and the care or treatment provided.
    • Serve as spokesperson of the dental provider team.
    • Supervise the work of dental hygienists, assistants, and other dental staff.
    • Ensure compliance with all relevant dental regulations and standards.
  • Administrative Duties:
    • Prepare and submit written reports as needed on Dental Department issues, concerns, program status, initiatives, and progress to the Health Services Director.
    • Develop and implement clinic policies and procedures in compliance with current accepted professional standards.
    • Assist in preparation and manage the Dental Department's budget and resources.
    • Oversee the procurement of dental supplies and equipment.
    • Attend meetings as necessary to represent the Dental Department.
    • Participate in the preparation of grant applications for the Dental Department.
    • Assume primary responsibility for developing and implementing the Tribe's dental health care plan.
    • Provide consultation to the Health Services Director, CEO, and Tribal Council regarding dental and oral health issues.
    • Participate in short and long term program planning for the Dental Department including development of goals and objectives.
    • Coordinate with IHS and community partners on outreach and education programs.
  • Staff Management:
    • Recruit, hire, and train dental staff.
    • Assist in the provision of continuing education, on-the-job training, and orientation of dental clinic staff and providers.
    • Evaluate staff performance and provide mentorship.
    • Address staff concerns and resolve conflicts.
  • Quality Improvement:
    • Monitor and evaluate the quality of dental care provided.
    • Implement quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes.
  • Community Engagement:
    • Ensure Dental Department participation in community outreach activities to promote oral health awareness.
    • Collaborate with tribal leaders and community organizations to address dental health needs.
  • Ensure full compliance with all relevant federal, state, and local regulations and guidelines pertaining to dental practice, clinical care, personnel matters, workplace safety, public health, and confidentiality.
  • Perform other related and/or necessary tasks to achieve organizational and programmatic goals and objectives.
Requirements:
  • Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree from a dental school accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation of the ADA.
  • Three (3) years experience post-residency as a general dentist, including at least 1 year in a supervisory capacity.
  • Active dental license in the state of Washington, or eligible for license.
  • Active DEA registration.
  • Current BLS certification.
  • Excellent leadership, interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Experience working in a dental clinic setting.
  • Knowledge of dental public health and community dentistry.
  • An enthusiastic approach to pediatric dentistry and current training in minimally invasive practices.
  • Ability to maintain appropriate clinical privileges.
  • Ability to maintain and respect strict confidentiality.
  • Ability to maintain a friendly and courteous manner in all patient and staff encounters.
  • Must pass Background Check and UA testing prior to employment.
  • Ability to follow department and Tribal policies and procedures.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working with Native American communities.
  • Experience working in a rural or underserved community.
  • Experience working in dental public health.
  • Working knowledge of Indian Health Service organization and administrative processes.
  • Experience with dental clinic administration, management, and budget development.
Working Conditions:
  • Work is performed in dental office environment
  • Involves interpersonal contact with staff and patients
  • 40 hour work week
