Join the City of Martinez as a Parks Maintenance Technician I

Contribute to the upkeep of our community parks and enhance the quality of life for residents.

POSITION SUMMARY:
Under general supervision, this role involves executing a variety of tasks essential to the Parks Division across designated areas, including parks and associated facilities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Individuals in this position are expected to undertake semi-skilled tasks with minimal supervision compared to the General Laborer's role. Responsibilities may include working independently, collaborating in a team, or overseeing the work of general laborers. Weekend work may be required during peak seasons.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
- Water landscaped areas and maintain irrigation systems.
- Dig holes and trenches for planting.
- Plant lawns, shrubs, and trees.
- Load and unload materials and equipment.
- Mow and trim lawns, rake leaves, and manage weeds.
- Clean and maintain park facilities, including restrooms and picnic areas.
- Operate light to moderately heavy power equipment and hand tools.
- Assist in the application of pesticides and perform routine inspections of park facilities.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum: High school diploma or equivalent with at least one year of experience in parks or grounds maintenance.
- Must pass a pre-employment physical exam and possess a valid Class B California driver's license or obtain one within six months of hire.

DESIRABLE SKILLS:
- Knowledge of maintenance methods, tools, and materials used in parks and grounds upkeep.
- Ability to perform manual labor and follow both oral and written instructions.
- Capacity to work independently or as part of a team.
