About the Opportunity:

  • The Town of Garner seeks a highly skilled and experienced Assistant Town Manager to join its senior management team.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Assist the Town Manager in overseeing various departments, including Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Resources, and Public Works.
  2. Facilitate special projects such as fire merger with Garner Fire-Rescue and refresh of the Town's Strategic Plan.
  3. Lead multiple complex and sensitive assessments of Town operations and management projects.
  4. Prepare reports and correspondence to express objectives, findings, recommendations, and goals to the Town Manager and Town Council.

The Town of Garner is a diverse community located in Wake County, adjacent to Raleigh, the capital city of North Carolina. With over 40,000 residents, Garner offers a unique blend of small-town charm and suburban convenience.

The town has a strong economy, excellent schools, and a thriving downtown area. Residents enjoy access to 874 acres of parkland and recreational open space, as well as numerous shopping and entertainment venues.

The Town of Garner operates under a non-partisan Council-Manager form of government, with a Mayor and five Council members. The Assistant Town Manager reports directly to the Town Manager.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 5-7 years of increasingly responsible professional experience in municipal management.
  • At least three years at a department director level role or above.
  • Experience as a Town Manager or Assistant Town Manager preferred.
  • Completion of a master's degree in public administration, business, or related area.

Salary and Benefits:

  • Hiring Range: $160,000 to $170,000.
  • Hiring Bonus: $3,000.
  • Negotiable starting salary based on experience.
