Job Summary: The Department of Veteran Affairs is seeking a highly skilled Staff Pathologist to provide diagnostic services within the Department of Pathology. This position offers opportunities for subspecialty coverage as training permits.

Main Responsibilities:

  • The Staff Pathologist will be ultimately responsible for diagnostic interpretation of specimens processed within the laboratory.
  • Provide residents and/or trainees with information on specimen processing and evaluation, ensuring high-quality education and training.
  • Review gross specimens for accurate diagnoses and interpretations.
  • Process and interpret intraoperative frozen sections to support patient care.
  • Offer intraoperative and intraprocedural consultation as requested by healthcare professionals.
  • Interpret and sign-out surgical pathology specimens within CAP guidelines for timely turnarounds.
  • Participate in multi-disciplinary conferences such as Tumor Board, Chest Conference, and GI Conference to ensure comprehensive patient care.
  • Review clinical history and medical records when responsible for autopsy coverage, discuss with the clinical team to ensure proper consent documentation, and perform autopsies when necessary.
  • Issue preliminary autopsy findings and completed autopsy reports with clinicopathologic correlation within 30 days.
  • Diagnose and interpret hematology fluids to provide accurate patient care.
  • Provide diagnostic expertise and sign-out in areas for which sub-specialty fellowship training has been completed.
  • Perform all other duties assigned by the Department of Pathology.
