Job Summary:
In collaboration with physician(s), demonstrates and provides professional nursing care to specialty patients requiring an advanced level of knowledge and management of their nursing care.
Responsibilities and Requirements:
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Initiates and provides medical interventions in response to acute changes in patient conditions.
- Provides educational services to nursing and ancillary departments and serves as an educational consultant on clinical practice issues.
- Applies evidence-based practices to achieve multidisciplinary collaboration to facilitate continuity of care.
- Contributes to the satisfaction of the medical staff by collaborating with physicians to deliver best care.
- Recognizes and utilizes opportunities to act as a change agent by introducing nursing practice innovations.
- Evaluates nursing practices associated with specialty area, defines needs/problems with patient care, and makes constructive suggestions that create a positive patient outcome.
- Works in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education:
- Completion of a formal post-basic education program from or formally affiliated with an accredited college, university, or hospital (Before July 1, 1998) or a graduate degree from an accredited college or university (After July 1, 1998) with a concentration in the appropriate advanced practice nursing clinical specialty area.
- Board certification by a national recognized certifying board in the appropriate population focus.
- Current or compact RN license in the appropriate state.
- Appropriate APRN license or document of recognition in the appropriate state.
Experience:
- One year of experience.
Physical Requirements:
- Constant use of speech to share information through oral communication.
- Constant standing and walking.
- Frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0-25 lbs.
- Frequent sitting, reaching, and keyboard use/data entry.
- Frequent use of vision and depth perception for distances near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more) and to identify and distinguish colors.
- Frequent use of smell to detect/recognize odors.
- Frequent use of hearing to receive oral communication, distinguish body sounds, and/or hear alarms, malfunctioning machinery, etc.
- Occasional lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 25-50 lbs.
- Occasional lifting/moving of patients.
- Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, twisting, gripping, and repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements.
- Occasional driving.
- Rare crawling and running.
Required Professional License and/or Certifications:
- Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) - Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR).
- APN Controlled Substance - Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR).
- Full Practice Authority APRN Control Substance - Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR).
- Full Practice Authority APRN - Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR).
- Nurse Practitioner - Missouri Division of Professional Registration.
- Registered Nurse Practitioner - Missouri Division of Professional Registration.
- Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) - Oklahoma Board of Nursing (OBN).
- Certified Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP-C) - American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP).
- Advanced Practice Nurse Prescriber (APNP) - Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services.
