Position Overview:

CDM Smith is in search of a Senior Automation and Controls Engineer who possesses extensive expertise in the design and execution of SCADA systems, control mechanisms, and instrumentation within the process sectors. The ideal candidate will demonstrate exceptional communication abilities, a proven track record in leading projects and teams to address client challenges, and strong client relationship management skills, all while being dedicated to their professional development.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Designing and developing a range of SCADA, control, cybersecurity, and instrumentation systems from basic to highly complex levels.
  2. Producing technical memoranda to address design challenges for clients.
  3. Preparing preliminary design reports (PDRs) that outline design objectives and criteria.
  4. Creating comprehensive master plans and needs assessment documents concerning SCADA systems and cybersecurity.
  5. Leading and mentoring junior staff, providing guidance and reviewing their work as necessary.
  6. Developing proposals and client presentations, including independently preparing project scopes and budgets.
  7. Estimating levels of effort (LOEs) for various tasks.
  8. Supporting construction services by reviewing complex shop drawings and responding to requests for information (RFIs).
  9. Conducting field acceptance testing (FATs) and inspections.
  10. Overseeing the implementation of SCADA system programming and integration tasks.
  11. Designing human-machine interfaces (HMIs) and programming PLC software while developing automated operational reports.
  12. Leading testing and startup operations for SCADA, controls, and instrumentation systems with minimal supervision.
  13. Creating operations and maintenance manuals for designed systems and developing training programs for end users at all organizational levels.
  14. Identifying opportunities to expand existing client contracts.

Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Chemical, or Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license.
  • A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience.
  • Equivalent additional directly related experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in Water/Wastewater sectors is highly preferred.
  • Background in an engineering or construction firm is advantageous.
  • Experience in leading teams is highly regarded.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (Control Systems) in New York or the ability to obtain reciprocity if licensed in another state.
