GENERAL FUNCTION: Under the guidance of the Camp Program Director / Site Director, the Senior Camp Program Coordinator will oversee program personnel in the preparation, implementation, and conclusion of camp activities in accordance with the established program framework. This role necessitates strict adherence to the program timetable, thorough understanding of the instructions for designated program activities, and leading camp events as a facilitator and overseer while ensuring a secure environment for all participants. The Senior Coordinator will delegate participant behavioral management issues and parent communications to the Camp Counselor and direct supervisor.

MINIMUM ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Education/Experience Requirements:
  1. Minimum Age 18
  2. High school Diploma or GED required.
  3. At least 15 hours of academic credit or 6 months of relevant experience working with school-age children.
  4. Lead Lifeguards must possess qualifications 1 - 3, in addition to current lifeguard certifications, and have 3 years of lifeguarding experience.
  5. Lead Tower/Ropes must meet qualifications 1 - 3 above, in addition to Alpine Tower Training/Ropes certification, and have 2 years of tower/ropes experience.
  6. Lead Wranglers must fulfill qualifications 1 - 3 above, in addition to 2 years of field experience and/or certification with horses.
Physical/Mental Requirements:
  1. Must be capable of routinely performing moderate physical activities; including climbing, bending, stooping, kneeling, twisting, reaching with hands, sitting, walking, and standing for extended periods, lifting and/or moving up to 50 pounds, demonstrating finger dexterity, grasping, performing repetitive motions, communicating verbally, hearing, and possessing visual acuity. Must be able to swim and pass certification if lifeguarding. Must be able to ride horses if required for the position. Must be able to belay and repel if working on the tower or climbing wall.
  2. Must exhibit problem-solving, organizational, and task management skills; ability to make independent and sound decisions in a rapidly changing environment.
  3. Must demonstrate a high level of maturity, patience, dependability, sound judgment, motivation, and a desire to work with all ages, particularly youth.
  4. Must show initiative in the absence of supervision.
  5. Must be able to relate to and work with diverse groups of individuals in a friendly and consistent manner.
  6. Must collaborate effectively as a team member as well as independently, leading by assigned goals, duties, and deadlines.
  7. Must maintain a neat and professional appearance at all times.
Job Requirements:
  1. Commitment to the YMCA mission, vision, and values.
  2. Must attend New Employee Orientation within 30 days of hire.
  3. Complete Adult & Pediatric CPR/AED, First Aid, KDHE Health History, Site Orientation, and other mandatory trainings in accordance with Conditions of Employment.
  4. Learn all emergency procedures and action plans for the branch as necessary.
  5. Understand and abide by all policies and procedures as set forth by the association.
  6. Work a schedule that reflects the needs of the branch, including weekends and evenings.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Developing and nurturing personal relationships that inspire trust and foster positive connections to the program, branch, and mission of the YMCA.
  2. Holding staff and volunteers accountable for adhering to program procedures and policies.
  3. Assisting and guiding staff to promote positive behavior management as well as fostering staff and child relationships.
  4. Reporting any issues or concerns immediately to the direct supervisor.
  5. Implementing and leading high-quality camp programs according to established program plans and schedules while maintaining all standards set by KDHE and YMCA.
  6. Providing information for the camp activity calendar and/or content for camp communications, as requested.
  7. Being actively engaged with campers, fellow staff members, and program activities throughout the session to build relationships with youth and serve as a role model for all.
  8. Maintaining behavior documentation as needed and communicating challenges to the direct supervisor when issues impact safety or the quality of the camp program.
  9. Supervising proper organization, maintenance, and inventory of all program equipment and supplies.
  10. Reviewing all emergency and/or medical plans and special needs plans for individual campers; ensuring reasonable accommodations and additional steps are taken to adjust the program for inclusion while maintaining the safety of all youth and following up with the direct supervisor as needed.
  11. Applying program policies and procedures respectfully and firmly when responding to campers, staff, and other camp guests. Making every effort to help participants find success when encountering difficult situations, concerns, or challenges.
  12. Responding quickly and effectively to accidents and incidents while following YMCA and KDHE reporting policies and submitting all required documentation in a timely manner.
  13. Providing supply requests to the direct supervisor in a timely manner.
  14. All other duties as assigned.
EFFECT ON END RESULT: Ensuring youth and staff feel positive and look forward to participating in the YMCA program. Ensuring parents are satisfied with the growth and development of children, positively impacting overall program success.
