The Clinical Pharmacy Manager oversees all medication management operations. This role is essential in delivering thorough and precise medication screening and dispensing services. The manager is also tasked with ensuring the safe and effective coordination of specialty pharmacy policies related to patient medication care, while providing clinical medication information tailored to the needs of patients and their healthcare teams. Additionally, this position involves daily management of Pharmacy Technicians.
Key Responsibilities:
- Patient Intake: Facilitate the patient intake process by managing referrals, verifying patient demographic details, conducting benefits investigations, determining coverage for specialty medications, and identifying financial assistance opportunities for eligible patients.
- Clinical Oversight: Oversee patient care by collaborating with a comprehensive team of healthcare professionals, evaluating clinical data, and optimizing therapy to ensure the appropriateness and safety of medication use based on evidence-based practices, while promoting adherence and persistence.
- Medication Fulfillment: Manage the processing, distribution, and delivery of referrals, ensuring product integrity, overseeing specialty medication inventory, following up with patients to confirm receipt of medications, and handling billing for services provided.
- Outcome Measurement: Define, collect, integrate, analyze, and report data to enhance treatment outcomes and assess the pharmacoeconomic impact of services offered.
Essential Duties:
- Oversee daily pharmacy operations related to workflow, production targets, and prescription processing accuracy.
- Ensure compliance with all accreditation standards and local, state, and federal regulations governing pharmacy practice.
- Supervise Patient Care Coordinators to guarantee the accuracy of dispensing functions and adherence to delivery timelines.
- Assist in the orientation, training, and performance management of pharmacy staff as required.
- Review all new medication orders for correct dosing, potential drug interactions, allergies, and contraindications prior to dispensing.
- Provide consultations and information regarding prescription and non-prescription medications, including storage, side effects, and interactions to healthcare professionals and patients.
- Obtain prescription orders from authorized prescribers as permitted by law.
- Manage pharmacy inventory and medical equipment provided to patients, including monitoring stock levels and overseeing ordering and shipping processes.
- Maintain clinical knowledge and skills to assist prescribers with medication regimens and therapeutic options.
- Monitor patient medication adherence and usage patterns, offering counseling as necessary.
- Identify therapy barriers and facilitate collaboration between patients and healthcare providers to achieve optimal outcomes.
- Support patient management activities, including care initiation with nursing and physician teams, care plan development, and participation in multidisciplinary patient care discussions.
- Provide quality assurance support during the fulfillment process as needed.
- Oversee customer billing for services rendered and ensure compliance with financial information requirements.
- Maintain accurate records related to patients, prescriptions, and standard operating procedures.
- Collaborate with other departments to support sales and marketing initiatives.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Required Education and Experience:
- Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm D) or Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy.
- Minimum of two years of experience as a Pharmacist.
- Current, unrestricted license to practice pharmacy in good standing.
- Proficient in clinical interpretation, including drug interactions and allergies.
- Completed training in HIPAA, Fraud Waste and Abuse, and Confidentiality.
- Experience in clinical monitoring.
- Demonstrated knowledge of medication regimens and related products.
- Exceptional customer service skills.
- Proficient in English language communication.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification as a Specialty Pharmacist (CSP).
- Board Certification by the Board of Pharmaceutical Specialties (BPS).
- Experience in a relevant specialty pharmacy practice area.
- Familiarity with medication claims processing systems.
- Possession of multiple state pharmacist licenses.
- Bilingual abilities (English/Spanish) are a plus.
