Job Description

St. Joseph Catholic Church in Shawnee, Kansas, is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Music Director to lead its liturgical music program. As a key member of the parish team, the successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing all musical aspects of parish liturgical events, including weekend Masses, Solemnities, Feasts, and special occasions.

Responsibilities
  • Direct and coordinate the activities of four choirs, ensuring high-quality music and worship experiences for the congregation.
  • Supervise and schedule paid organists, cantors, and other music ministers, ensuring adequate coverage for all liturgical events.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive music program, including selecting music for liturgies, creating worship aids, and promoting music ministry within the parish.
  • Collaborate with the parish staff and clergy to ensure seamless integration of music into the overall worship experience.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to music ministers, promoting their growth and development as musicians and leaders.
  • Manage the parish's music resources, including instruments, music licenses, and other equipment.
  • Coordinate the livestreaming of liturgies and other events, ensuring high-quality audio and video production.
  • Work closely with the parish supervisor, Deacon Mark Mies, to ensure alignment with the parish's mission and goals.
Requirements
  • Strong Roman Catholic faith and deep knowledge of liturgy.
  • Exceptional proficiency in keyboard playing, conducting, and voice development.
  • Proven leadership and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse groups and individuals.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong commitment to collaboration and mutual support.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
