We are seeking a skilled Automotive Equipment Mechanic to join our team at Baltimore City Public Schools. As a key member of our maintenance team, you will be responsible for performing diagnostic, installation, maintenance, and repair work on school buses and other vehicles or mechanical equipment.
Key Responsibilities- Diagnose and repair problems with gasoline and diesel automobiles, trucks, and school buses.
- Perform Class A and Class B inspections on school buses as required by COMAR.
- Repair engines, fuel systems, electrical systems, exhaust systems, brake systems, transmissions, differential assemblies, and other vehicle components.
- Road test vehicles to verify complaints and ensure the adequacy of repair.
- Diagnose, repair, and maintain hydraulic systems, including wheelchair lifts on buses.
- Perform preventive maintenance tasks on school buses, automotive equipment, and other mechanical equipment.
- Ensure all activities are performed in compliance with equal employment and nondiscrimination policies, federal laws, state laws, school board policies, and professional standards.
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Three years of maintenance and repair experience with automotive and other mechanical equipment.
- Maryland Class A or B Commercial driver's license, or an equivalent out-of-state driver's license, with air brakes, passenger, and school bus endorsements.
- Knowledge of the operation and repair of various gasoline and diesel vehicles and specialized equipment, including engines, transmissions, wheelchair lifts, and other complex components.
- Knowledge of safety practices and procedures.
- Knowledge of COMAR and MSDE requirements for inspections, maintenance, and repair of school buses.
