Position Overview:

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support students, both individually and in small groups, by reinforcing and implementing instructional activities as directed by the educator; maintain comprehensive records of student progress.
  • Apply strategies and procedures established by educators to create safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environments.
  • Assist educators and health professionals in executing necessary health-related procedures for students with special needs, ensuring accurate documentation of these activities.
  • Engage as a member of the instructional team; build positive relationships with families and team members, contributing valuable insights to enhance planning and decision-making processes.
  • Facilitate student transitions to various activities and environments, including lunchrooms and playgrounds, while assisting in preparation as needed.
  • Organize and prepare lesson materials as instructed by the educator; administer and evaluate various assessments in accordance with established protocols.
  • Under the guidance of the educator, effectively implement instructional strategies and procedures using diverse group arrangements.
  • Assist in conducting assessments; document and analyze assessment results; support the implementation and monitoring of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), reporting any concerns to the educator.
  • Monitor student behavior in accordance with approved guidelines; provide updates on student performance and behavior to the educator.
  • Implement behavior management plans developed by the educator, adhering to legal and procedural standards for managing student behaviors.
  • Support the maintenance of student records as required by federal and state regulations and Fayette County Public Schools policies.
  • Perform routine clerical tasks, including preparing instructional materials, operating copy machines, and maintaining attendance records.
  • Assist the educator by organizing workspaces, setting up displays, and managing educational equipment.
  • Utilize appropriate language and tone, ensuring effective communication with students.
  • Lead group activities as assigned, assist during meal times, and participate in emergency drills and other school events.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding students and their families, as well as all educational records.
  • Participate in professional development activities designed for paraprofessionals.
  • Provide emotional support and guidance to students, fostering a positive learning environment.
  • Collaborate with the educator to create a conducive learning atmosphere, addressing any behavioral disruptions as instructed.
  • Conduct regular communication with the educator regarding student needs and concerns.
  • Ensure student health and safety by adhering to established health practices and regulations.
  • Maintain consistent attendance and report absences as required.
  • Assist students with physical tasks as necessary, including mobility and personal care.
  • Engage with families of absent students and participate in home visits as needed.
  • Attend meetings and training sessions as assigned, fulfilling annual professional development requirements.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Experience working with young children in structured settings, including instructional experience with diverse populations.
  • Child Development Associates (CDA) credential or an Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or Child and Family Studies.
  • Valid Driver's License and completion of required assessments.
Working Conditions:
