Job Summary
The NYC Health + Hospitals is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Security Officer to join our team. As a Security Officer, you will be responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, and staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Patrol designated areas of assigned locations, public buildings, and surrounding areas to maintain order, preserve the peace, and safeguard life and property against fire, vandalism, theft, etc.
- Screen employees and visitors, operate, monitor, and maintain security equipment, and provide routine information to visitors and clients.
- Discourage and eject loiterers and disorderly persons, and when appropriate, arrest and issue summonses to law violators on premises.
- Transport, escort, and/or arrange for transport of persons in custody to police precincts and have arrests recorded on police blotter.
- Make written entries into location log books, respond to and report emergency and security instances, and assist in implementing the Emergency Action Plan.
- Provide assistance to the sick, injured, mentally and physically disabled, and call for emergency assistance, ambulance, and/or medical attention when necessary.
- Administer first aid if properly certified and authorized by the health care setting.
- Complete and forward requisite paperwork, record daily actions in memo book, and maintain records/daily logs of persons entering or leaving building outside regular hours of employment.
- Monitor and report unusual events from security systems, distribute, monitor, maintain, secure, and ensure accountability for assigned equipment and property.
- Operate hydraulic access devices as needed, attend, complete, and maintain State and NYC H+H training requirements, and operate a motor vehicle.
- Assist in supervising contracted security guards and perform related duties as required.
Requirements
- A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by State's Department of Education or a recognized accrediting organization.
- Six (6) months of full-time work experience.
- A valid and current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA).
- Must have reached their 20th birthday by the date of appointment.
- Must be a resident of the City of New York at the time of appointment and maintain City residency as a continuing condition of employment.
- Must satisfy the training requirements established by the State of New York for Peace Officer certification prior to beginning their official tour of duty.
