About the Job

We are seeking a skilled Licensed Practical Nurse, Health Services Technician to join our team at the Oregon Department of Corrections. As a critical member of our healthcare staff, you will provide clinical care and treatment to inmates in a correctional institution.

Your Role

">
  • ">
  • Provide wound care, including post-operative dressings and maintaining aseptic conditions">
  • Recognize signs and symptoms related to the disease process">
  • Conduct nursing procedures, including treatments">
  • Administer medications, identify adverse side effects, and notify RN or physician">
  • Use routine equipment such as stethoscopes, blood pressure cuffs, and oxygen">
  • Provide first aid and CPR">
  • Phlebotomy">
  • Assess emergency situations using triage format">
  • Develop treatment plans for life-threatening emergencies and implement independently">
  • Delegate non-nursing duties to unlicensed staff and provide direction">
  • Prepare accurate written documentation and patient progress notes">
  • Monitor patients' condition, including vital signs, intravenous fluids, and medication needs">
  • Develop and execute teaching programs on medical issues for inmates, residents, or nonmedical personnel">
  • Understand and apply statutes and regulations regarding patient rights and confidentiality">
  • Assist with writing Nursing Policy and Procedures">
  • Perform EKGs and take appropriate referral action">
  • Respond tactfully to combative or hostile patients">
  • Communicate with patients regarding their condition and medical procedures">
  • Work effectively with professional and paraprofessional staff">
  • Use proper body mechanics to safely lift and maneuver patients and medical equipment">

The State of Oregon offers a competitive salary range for this position: $5482 - $6023 per year. In addition to a generous salary, we offer a comprehensive benefits package, including family health, vision, and dental insurance, vacation and sick leave, 11 paid holidays, and more.

Requirements and Qualifications

">

To be successful in this role, you must have a valid driver's license and two years of experience in the care and treatment of physically ill or injured patients. You must also possess an Oregon Licensed Practical Nurse certification and a valid First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Card.
