Position Overview

Van Dyk Health Care is seeking a Full-Time Culinary Specialist for our Assisted Living facility.

Shift/Hours: 6:00 AM - 2:00 PM / 11:00 AM - 7:00 PM

Compensation: Based on Experience *Candidates must possess relevant culinary experience in the healthcare sector*

Qualifications:

  • Preferred experience in commercial cooking or substantial domestic cooking for large groups.
  • A passion for working with senior citizens.
  • Food preparation training certification is preferred.
  • Supervisory experience is an asset.
  • A high school diploma or GED is mandatory.
  • Valid Food Handlers Serve Safe Certification is required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Modify recipes to meet the specific dietary requirements of residents while enhancing flavor profiles, focusing on low-sodium options.
  • Maintain a detailed inventory of food supplies, including dry goods, refrigerated items, and kitchen utensils.
  • Prepare and store meats properly, ensuring portion control upon delivery.
  • Uphold a clean, organized, and safe kitchen environment.
  • Ensure proper food handling, labeling, and storage to prevent contamination.
  • Adhere to all regulatory compliance standards.
  • Monitor portion sizes to align with resident preferences and reduce waste.
  • Present food attractively on plates prior to serving.
  • Report any equipment malfunctions to management.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned by supervisors.
  • Follow emergency protocols and ensure proper use of firefighting equipment while assisting in resident evacuation.
  • Prepare daily meals according to the established weekly menu.
  • Assist in menu planning, adjusting for seasonal ingredients, vendor pricing, special occasions, and holidays.
  • Comply with all Human Resources policies and facility procedures.
  • Follow established Infection Control and Universal Precautions protocols during daily operations.
