Optician Dispensing Lead

As a Licensed Optician Dispensing Lead, you will provide ophthalmic dispensing and related services to members and non-members, while also supervising unlicensed optical sales staff and serving as a resource for staff and patients on general ophthalmic dispensing principles.
Key Responsibilities- Determine patients' occupational, lifestyle, and cosmetic needs and advise on lens style, color, and material, as well as frame shape, color, and material.
- Take facial measurements and use ophthalmic equipment to measure and shape lenses and adjust frames.
- Provide direct personal supervision of unlicensed optical staff in facial measurements, fitting, or adjusting lenses or frames.
- Understand and explain spectacle lens geometry to patients and apply principles of size, thickness, and power to assist patients in selecting proper eyewear.
- Know the impact of different lens indexes and recommend appropriate alternatives.
- Measure and shape lenses and adjust frames using ophthalmic equipment, including lens edger, hand edger, lensometer, frame warmer, and precision hand tools.
- Inspect patients' eyewear using ANSI Z80.1 standards and tolerances and perform and confirm in-depth quality check functions.
- Follow through on rush orders by calling orders into the Optical Lab and ensuring lenses and frame availability.
- Perform basic and technical duties to provide Contact Lens services, including preparing patients for contact lens services, instructing patients in insertion, removal, and care of contact lenses, and performing tear tests.
- Identify patient concerns, recommend actions, and discuss solutions with Optical management as needed.
- Collaborate with optical management to achieve optical services sales goals and work collaboratively to improve sales and service in the Region.
- Maintain attractive frame and lens displays by arranging, cleaning, and changing product on a regular basis.
- Monitor clinic frame inventory status by ordering, pricing, and placing stock on frame boards.
- Keep track of backorder products and take action as necessary.
- Train and assist new hires and other staff members as needed.
- Provide direct personal supervision of unlicensed optical staff in facial fitting or adjusting lenses or frames or duplicating frames.
- Plan, coordinate, and assign tasks to department personnel to assure optimum quality and productivity.
- Serve as a resource in resolving problems and introducing new products and procedures.
- Refer personnel issues to supervisor.
- Act as liaison between clinic, Optometry, and optical management.
- Participate in clinic meetings and projects.
- Plan, coordinate, schedule work, orient, and/or train assigned subordinates.
- Assure quality of work in a timely manner to meet service standards for the department.
- Demonstrate knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to provide care and/or service appropriate to age groups served.
- Demonstrate knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to provide culturally sensitive care and/or service.
- Minimum three (3) years ophthalmic dispensing experience with office management experience.
- Three (3) years demonstrated sales ability in relation to company sales goals.
- Three (3) years contact lens dispensing experience.
- High school diploma; or equivalent combination of education (lesser) and experience may be considered in lieu of requirements.
- Dispensing Optician License (Hawaii).
- Demonstrated ability to educate patients and staff on ophthalmic dispensing principles.
- Demonstrated ability to perform in-depth quality check functions.
- Demonstrated knowledge of and skill in leadership skills, problem-solving, interpersonal relations, oral communication, written communication, and manage/coordinate various issues effectively.
- Demonstrated knowledge of and skill in word processing, spreadsheet, and database PC applications.
- Talking to co-workers, customers, outside vendors, and on the telephone.
- Reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English.
- Training/giving and receiving instructions.
- Mathematical ability, attention to detail (e.g., organization, prioritization, proofing), concentration, and alertness.
- Post high school coursework in optical/contact lens dispensing and fitting.
- Optical Assistant Technical training.
