Senior Cook

We are seeking a skilled Senior Cook to join our team at UC San Diego. As a key member of our Residential, Retail and Supply Chain Services (RRSS) team, you will be responsible for preparing high-quality food in a fast-paced dining food service environment.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare and cook food to meet department standards for quality, safety, and presentation.
- Operate and maintain kitchen equipment, including cooking ranges, ovens, and dishwashers.
- Coordinate production and food product presentation to meet customer demands.
- Assist in training new staff members on complex recipe preparation and kitchen procedures.
- Ensure a clean and safe working environment, adhering to health and safety regulations.
- Understanding of food specifications, including meat buyer's guide, USDA produce, poultry, and frozen specifications.
- Skills in institutional food production, including recipe preparation and kitchen operations.
- Experience working with standardized recipes and production sheets.
- Ability to safely operate and maintain food service equipment.
- Problem-solving skills to handle situations such as staff shortages, product failures, or utility equipment failures.
This is a part-time position, with a variable schedule that may include morning, afternoon, and weekend shifts. The employee may be required to take off or be placed on a temporary short work break during scheduled operational shutdown periods. A valid California Driver's License and good driving record are required.
