Position Overview

In alignment with the NSCWDD's B (Electromagnetic and Sensor Systems) Department, Codes B40 and B60, this role involves offering sensor systems expertise throughout the entire acquisition lifecycle, from initial concept to sustainment of radar systems for the US Navy (USN) and US Marine Corps (USMC). The systems supported include Dual Band Radar (DBR), Ground Air Task Oriented Radar (G/ATOR), AN/SPY-1, AN/SPY-6, Enhanced Radar Data Display System (ERDDS), Enhanced Coherent Data Collection System (ECDCS), Littoral Combat Ship (LCS), among others.
Key Responsibilities

Primary Job Functions:

  • Assist in the formulation and implementation of systems engineering plans, from requirement identification to design validation. Strategize and execute engineering methodologies in line with sanctioned project acquisition strategies:
  • Conduct technical analysis and systems engineering support to facilitate architecture design, interoperability, specification analysis, and development, as well as systems sustainment for the projects in question;
  • Create test and evaluation documentation, which includes laboratory testing protocols, new technology assessment documents, usability engineering documents, and laboratory testing of software/hardware test articles produced by the design team;
  • Research and draft systems/subsystem specification documents, ensuring compliance, completeness, and consistency of component and interface requirements with both current and evolving system requirements and architectures.
  • Support signal processing initiatives, including waveform, clutter management, and electronic protection development; integrate electronic compatibility into systems; and assist in data collection and analysis to evaluate the effectiveness of signal processing systems.

Work Environment:

Responsibilities may be performed in government or contractor office settings, laboratories, or field environments in direct support of USN/USMC organizations. This may involve working aboard naval vessels or in other field environments as necessary.

Physical Requirements:

Travel to various locations as required, including USN piers, ships, and dry docks, as well as between contractor and government sites.

Qualifications

Education / Certifications:

Candidates must meet one or more of the following criteria:

  • A Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program in Mechanical, Electrical, Computer, or Electronics Engineering.
  • A Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Computer Science, or Physics from an accredited institution.
  • A Master's degree in one of the aforementioned fields from an accredited institution.
  • A Ph.D. in one of the aforementioned fields from an accredited institution.

Experience / Skills:

General Sensor Engineering Experience:

General experience is defined as professional experience obtained post-degree:

  • At least four (4) years with a Bachelor's degree
  • At least two (2) years with a Master's degree

Specialized Experience:

Proven experience and capability to perform detailed calculations and a strong understanding of the principles necessary to evaluate advanced sensor systems concepts, specifications, and system integration.
