Job Summary

The Dysart Unified School District is seeking a highly qualified Special Education Teacher to join our team. As a Special Education Teacher - Visually Impaired, you will be responsible for evaluating, preparing, and implementing educational services for referred and qualified Vision Impaired students district-wide.

Key Responsibilities
  • Administer assessments to evaluate students' skill levels, progress, and achievement, as necessary or at the direction of the psychologist or support specialist.
  • Provide instruction consistent with students' Individualized Education Plans, using strategies, methods, and materials appropriate to the learner's abilities, needs, and learning style.
  • Develop materials and behavioral management strategies to enable effective learning.
  • Participate in student study teams, provide consultation and assistance in writing modified programs for students in the mainstream, and recommend adapted equipment or alternatives to promote student success.
  • Participate in Multi-Disciplinary conferences, IEP meetings, and parent conferences as needed or appropriate.
  • Develop and maintain accurate class lists, IEP data, and other required district and compliance documentation.
  • Schedule, plan, and implement direct and consultation services, and arrange for Orientation and Mobility services for referred or qualified students as indicated by the IEP or team determination.
  • Perform functional screening assessments on students referred by the nurse, support specialist, or student study team.
  • Perform initial evaluations and re-evaluations on referred students when indicated.
  • Establish and maintain good rapport with students, employees, community members, and vendors.
  • Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • State of Arizona Special Education Teacher's Certification for Visually Impaired.
  • Valid Arizona Identity Verified Prints (IVP) Fingerprint Clearance Card (AZ IVP FPCC).
  • Valid Arizona driver's license and current auto liability insurance.
Working Conditions

The work environment is typically quiet, and travel between district schools may be necessary.
