GENERAL SUMMARY

The Sylvan Educator plays a crucial role in fostering a supportive and engaging learning atmosphere for students by delivering personalized educational experiences. This position involves assessing student progress, communicating effectively with center staff, and ensuring that each student's learning path is tailored to their individual needs.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare for each instructional session by organizing and gathering necessary materials.
  • Welcome students and initiate lessons to actively engage them in the learning process.
  • Deliver instruction according to the established Sylvan programs.
  • Manage classroom dynamics, tasks, and time to create a comprehensive instructional experience.
  • Assess and document the progress of each student on their assigned programs.
  • Utilize positive reinforcement to keep students motivated and eager to learn.
  • Encourage students with rewards for specific accomplishments in line with Sylvan's instructional standards.
  • Track and manage rewards earned by students.
  • Conclude each instructional session effectively, ensuring proper documentation and transition activities; uphold safety and well-being protocols.
  • Communicate specific student needs to center staff for ongoing support.
  • Participate in regular staff meetings and complete necessary training.
  • Complete certification training for each Sylvan program as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Language Arts and Study Skills Educators:
    • Bachelor's degree.
    • Preferred state teaching credentials (current or expired).
    • Minimum of one year of teaching experience.
    • Knowledge of phonics and reading comprehension is essential for reading instructors.
  • Math Educators:
    • Bachelor's degree preferred in a field requiring extensive college-level mathematics.
  • SAT/ACT Test Preparation and Advanced Reading Skills Educators:
    • Bachelor's degree or equivalent preferred.
  • Familiarity with general office equipment, such as copiers and printers, is preferred.
  • Proficiency with tablet computers.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Demonstrated ability to engage, motivate, and inspire students.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and adapt to changing situations.
  • Excellent problem-solving and customer service skills.
  • Team-oriented mindset.
