Community Support Instructor

This position is a full-time role focused on providing essential support at our Day Habilitation Services.
Role Summary:
The Community Support Instructor is accountable to the Director of Day Services.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Deliver personalized training to enhance and sustain skills in areas identified by the individual's support team, including training in community environments.
2. Foster a nurturing and therapeutic environment for individuals receiving Day Habilitation Services.
3. Assist individuals in setting and achieving personal goals and objectives, executing instructional activities aligned with their training plans.
4. Maintain accurate documentation of individual performance, including activities and behaviors observed, ensuring all reports are current and precise.
5. Continuously assess individual progress.
6. Complete Individualized Program Plans (IPP) and progress reports regarding individual participation in the program.
7. Communicate with the Director of Day Services regarding any significant changes, challenges, or achievements of individuals.
8. Provide counseling as needed and refer individuals to their Program Coordinators when appropriate.
9. Fill in for other Community Support Instructors as required.
10. Drive assigned transportation routes as needed.
11. Support recreational activities as necessary.
12. Ensure proper training and supervision when individuals are in community settings.
13. Obtain prior approval for all necessary supply purchases.
14. Administer first aid and medical assistance as required, notifying the Program Coordinator and Director of Day Services when necessary.
15. Organize activities and outings, reporting any concerns or suggestions to the Director of Day Services.
16. Attend regularly scheduled staff meetings.
17. Engage in the agency's safety program, including emergency drill procedures and training in CPR and first aid.
18. Be familiar with established behavior management techniques and crisis intervention strategies to ensure the safety of individuals and staff during behavioral crises.
19. Exhibit a willingness to work with and train individuals with behavioral challenges.
20. Participate in agency investigations as required.
21. Perform any additional duties assigned by the Director of Day Services.
Essential Functions:
1. Provide training and supervision to develop identified skills.
2. Create a supportive and therapeutic environment.
3. Complete all necessary data collection on individual goals.
4. Document progress and Individual Training Plan details for submission to Program Coordinators.
5. Assist individuals in goal development and implementation.
6. Drive designated transportation routes as assigned.
7. Carry out break duties as assigned.
8. Adhere to Department of Transportation and agency drug and alcohol testing policies.
9. Obtain medication certification as required.
10. All staff are expected to comply with state and federal regulations regarding confidentiality and protected health information.
Qualifications:
1. Previous experience in an instructional or teaching environment is preferred, along with an A.A. or B.A. degree.
2. One year of experience in a direct care role within a human services or educational agency is preferred.
3. Ability to relate to and understand individuals with physical and mental challenges.
4. Strong interpersonal skills to engage with the public effectively.
5. Personal conduct must serve as a positive role model for individuals.
6. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential.
7. Willingness to engage in behavior management and crisis intervention strategies.
8. Ability to communicate effectively and courteously with colleagues.
9. Maintain confidentiality regarding individuals and organizational information.
10. Willingness to learn and administer necessary assessment tools.
11. Team-oriented mindset with a collaborative approach.
12. Flexibility to work scheduled hours as required.
13. No legal convictions related to assault, abuse, or bodily injury.
14. Compliance with established drug and alcohol testing policies is mandatory.
15. Participation in agency investigations is required, with confidentiality upheld.
Physical Requirements:
1. Ability to travel up to 70 miles as needed.
2. Physical stamina to assist individuals in loading and unloading from vehicles.
3. Capability to engage in physical activities for extended periods.
4. Ability to perform tasks requiring bending, squatting, pushing, and pulling.
5. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
6. Provide necessary physical care for individuals during direct care duties.
7. Ability to assist individuals in regaining balance or transitioning between positions.
8. Competence in performing routine cleaning and meal preparation tasks.
