Interventional Radiology Nurse

- The Interventional Radiology Nurse (IR RN) is responsible for delivering care to patients undergoing radiological interventional procedures.
- This role encompasses conducting initial assessments and examinations of patients, as well as obtaining informed consent for procedures.
- They play a crucial role in educating patients and their families about treatment plans and procedures.
- Additional responsibilities include monitoring vital signs during procedures and performing daily patient rounds to assess recovery progress.
- Reports directly to the Unit Supervisor.
- Preparing patients for procedures: This includes verifying vital signs, medications, NPO status, lab results, and reviewing medical history.
- Educating patients and their families: Ensuring understanding of the procedure and care plan prior to obtaining consent, along with providing discharge instructions.
- Inserting and removing IV lines as necessary.
- Administering medications, including moderate sedation.
- Monitoring patient patterns and vital signs throughout the procedure, with proficiency in EKG interpretation.
- Ensuring patient safety and comfort before, during, and after procedures.
- Assisting in circulating and scrubbing procedures as required.
- Conducting post-procedure monitoring: Observing for complications such as bleeding, pain, or changes in mental status and vital signs.
- Communicating any unusual patient needs to the technologist or radiologist and performing specialized nursing duties, including administering IV sedation or analgesia during specific procedures, while closely monitoring patients with cardiac and pulse oximeters.
- Minimum of one year of experience in Interventional Radiology.
- Graduate from an accredited nursing program.
- Current nursing license in good standing, along with AHA BLS and ACLS certifications.
