Job Summary

This position is accountable for the preparation and administration of radioactive materials for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. The incumbent will also be responsible for scanning patients to obtain images of various organs/organ systems to obtain diagnostic information for the purpose of diagnosis and treatment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure proper patient identification, order verification, and prepares the patient for the exam.
  • Perform Nuclear Medicine examinations per departmental protocol.
  • Familiar with the ALARA program and follows proper radiation safety protocol.
  • Use proper protection and badges.
  • Proper handling of radiopharmaceuticals for diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
  • Ensure that the appropriate radioactive material is given to the correct patient through the proper route for imaging and treatment purposes.
  • Practice appropriate infection control and sterile techniques.
  • Understand and operate all nuclear medicine equipment and related information systems appropriately to ensure quality images are produced.
  • Exhibit understanding and proficiency with electronic imaging. The incumbent will be able to view, transfer, and manipulate images.
  • Prepare, calculate, and measure radiopharmaceuticals for all nuclear medicine procedures.
  • Follow all regulations of the Utah Division of Radiation Control and NRC license and any other regulatory agencies governing the use of radiopharmaceuticals.
  • Document radioactive materials entering or leaving the department; store and maintain materials according to safety guidelines; and dispose of materials after they have decayed to a level considered to be environmentally safe.
  • Assist in maintaining records and logs required by Joint Commission, the State of Utah, and the Imaging department.
  • Thoroughly and accurately complete all required documentation, including time stamps and image storage.
Requirements
  • Board certified through Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board or American Registry Radiologic Technologists Board.
  • Current License in state of practice.
  • Basic Life support (BLS) certification for healthcare providers.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nuclear Medicine from an accredited institution with one year experience.
Post-hire Expectations
  • Complete the controlled substance module within six months of hire.
  • Meet departmental IV certification competency requirement within three months of hire.

  • Hearing/Listening, Lifting, Manual Dexterity, Seeing, Standing.
